A reforestation day was held to restore the riparian forest on the banks of Bobos River

As part of the Technical Restoration Board's actions, on Friday, August 25, 2023, a reforestation day was held on the banks of the Bobos River, in the Sioux community, Morales, Izabal, Guatemala.
 
Three thousand forest tree plants donated by the military reserves of Puerto Barrios, Izabal, were planted during this day, with the participation of 75 persons, including representatives of the Municipality of Morales, Agrocaribe, Ministry of Education (MINEDUC, for its Spanish acronym), Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN, for its Spanish acronym), Foundation for Ecodevelopment and Conservation (FUNDAECO, for its Spanish acronym), Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food (MAGA, for its Spanish acronym), National Coffee Association (ANACAFE, for its Spanish acronym), National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (CONRED, for its Spanish acronym), University of San Carlos of Guatemala (USAC, for its Spanish acronym), community members and youth from the village's basic education school.
 
The restoration plan target set for 2023 is 10 hectares of land and activities are expected to continue during 2024 to achieve the largest possible coverage in order to restore the riparian forest that will benefit local communities and aquatic ecosystems by reducing the nutrient and pesticide load reaching the rivers and ultimately the ocean.
 
This Technical Board was established with WWF Mesoamerica's facilitation and is staffed by representatives of the Municipality of Morales; COCODES of the Soioux and Swich Quebradas villages; FUNDAECO; ANACAFE; and government and civil society agencies.
