The One Planet City Challenge 2023-2024 edition is launched

The One Planet City Challenge (OPCC) is a biennial friendly challenge that aims to help cities and municipalities around the world to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. All cities around the world can participate in this challenge.

Currently, WWF Mesoamerica is working on the recruitment stage for the 2023-2024 edition, which already has the participation of 15 cities distributed as follows:

10 cities in Guatemala:

  2. San José, Escuintla
  3. Escuintla, Escuintla
  4. La Democracia, Escuintla
  5. Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala
  6. Flores, Petén
  7. Chimaltenango, Chimaltenango
  8. San Lucas Sacatepéquez, Sacatepéquez
  9. La Esperanza, Quetzaltenango
  10. Ciudad Vieja, Sacatepéquez


5 cities in Costa Rica:
 

  1. Montes de Oca, San José
  2. Oreamuno, Cartago
  3. Monte Verde, Puntarenas
  4. Belén, Heredia
  5. Santa Ana, San José


Among the benefits that the OPCC offers to local authorities that join the program are strengthening and developing their work on climate challenges; exchanging experiences and building networks with cities around the world; in addition to the recognition given to them through WWF channels.

This effort is carried out with the support and participation of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLIE) and the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate y Energy (GCoM).
