May 16 to 17, 2024 | As part of the actions carried out by WWF Mesoamerica to promote the conservation and restoration of mangroves in Belize, a two-day workshop was held in Dangriga, Stann Creek.

This workshop was jointly conducted with the partner organization ReefKeeper and involved the participation of multiple departments of the Belizean government such as the Forestry Department, Hol Chan Marine Reserve, the Fisheries Department, the local tertiary institution - Ecumenical Junior College. It also engaged local fisherwomen and non-governmental organizations such as the Crocodile Research Coalition, MARFUND and the Bonefish Tarpon Trust.

Such activities reflect a shared effort to promote the safeguarding of mangroves in Belize, considering both their importance to the role of marine habitats as buffers against climate change and to support the livelihoods of communities.
