FOOD

It’s time to reconsider food.

Around the globe, food production, distribution, management and waste threaten wildlife, wild places and the planet itself.

Across Central America, agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture are key to economic development and alleviating poverty, malnutrition and food insecurity. Agroindustry employs over 2 million people and generates more than $10 billion in goods annually. In addition, 70% of rural residents rely on small agricultural fields for the family’s nutritional and financial needs. At the same time, production practices contribute heavily to the environmental degradation of our forests, soil and ocean ecosystems.

So how do we produce food without having a negative impact over the environment?  WWF is partnering to build more sustainable food production practices for major exports. We partner to improve agricultural practices for a reduced environmental footprint and encourage certification processes.

By working with industries and farmers to use voluntary certification schemes we make an important contribution to saving our forests and ecosystems.
